In the world of modelling, you will often see kits for seemingly fantastic prices but they are labelled as a "short" kit. So what does this mean?
Short kits are usually made with the experienced builder in mind. A short kit is a model kit that has been made to contain only the vital, unique components that make up the essence of the plane. Typically with balsa planes this includes fuselage formers, wing ribs, tail planes and other specifically shaped parts which you would not normally be able to obtain. What is left out of the kit is presumed to be routinely available at your LHS. Items such as balsa sheet and strip stock, fiberglass cloth, carbon fiber tow, nuts, screws etc.
So before you dive in on what seems to be an insanely good bargain, check first to see if it makes sense for you to get a short kit. Quite often for people who have been building models for a long time it makes sense. If however you're just getting started it might pay overall for you to obtain a full kit instead.
